    KB955706 won't install

I've been trying to get all MS Windows & Office updates installed on new
laptop (Windows XP). It took hours and lots of problems (freezing up, etc.)
but everything was finally installed excpet this one: MS SQL Server 2005
Express Edition SP 3 (KB955706). I don't even know what this is or if I need
it, but I've rebooted several times and updates keep saying I need it, but it
    won't install.

Weird, but the MS update site says it is 0KB and will take 0 time, so I
don't know what to think. Do I really need this and if so, what do I do?

    Go ahead and download Dial-ª-Fix.

    <http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix> (Download near bottom)

Click the Double green checkmark and click Go.

    After it has finished, Reboot

Try Windows Update and see if you can get your updates instªlled.

    RE: KB955706 won't install

I do appreciate the reply, but to tell the truth, I just don't feel
computer-savy enough to feel comfortable doing those steps. Besides, this is
a brand new computer and the very first thing I try to do is get Windows
updated before installing anything else. Since I had other problems like
weird vertical lines running in columns across the screen making everything
freeze to where I had to manually shut it down. Even got the dreaded "blue
screen of death" a couple of times with messages that it's either faulty
outdated drivers or hardware RAM issues. So I'm taking this laptop back
where I bought it from yesterday. It's an Acer Extensa 4620-6456 if anyone
wants to know that... I don't know whether to assume that this was just a
fluke computer because research showed good enough stuff about Acer, but I
think my confidence is shattered enough that I don't know if I'll risk all
the time and effort to see if another one works better or not. All this
because I wanted a new laptop with XP instead of Vista! Oh well... thanks
again and if anyone has any more insights, I'd be interested to hear.

Usually I install the antivirus software before doing windows updates.
Had an experience once where I was updating via modem and got a nasty
virus before the windows workstation was patched.

Now my standard practice for new machines is the following:

    1. Install AV with current update before connecting workstation to
    internet.
    2. Run AV scan.
    3. Connect workstation to internet.
    4. Windows updates.
    5. Run AV scan again.

This procedure has worked every time when installing windows patches.
    Hope this helps.
