.NET Framework 3.5 Sevice Pack 1, Family Update x86

Hi, I´ve been trying to install this update, the download was OK, but when
trying the install itself, it wasn´t completed, and an error occured -
0x20000009. I tried it three times, but it was unsuccessful everytime. What
is the problem? Thanks for an answer.

I had a similar problem and posted the following in another post ...

I received that error code 80080005 when trying to install Microsoft .NET
Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847)
x86 on my computer (Vista Home Premium, SP1).

I did a quick google search and came across the old 'turn off you anti virus
and firewall' tip. Since I had that issue with the SP1 update I tried that
and then I successfully updated my computer.

I learned a lesson that I had forgotten - when I see the phrase 'Service
Pack' I will remember to turn off my McAfee firewall and antivirus
    temporarily.

I am not able to add or remove programs, I get a box that says (another
installation is already in progress. complete that installation befor
proceeding with this install) this has been going on for the last 5 days. I
    have re booted several times

I´ve found the solution. The problem was I hadn´t had installed .NET
Framework 3.5. Once I solved this, the update was no problem, everything went
    smoothly.

It didn't work for me either. I followed the instructions on this webpage and
it fixed the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 BTW, I had to
use method 2 because Frameworks 3 and 2 would not uninstall following

I've been struggling with this problem for 11 hours ! AAAHHH! I just checked
your suggestion and I find I don't .Net Framework 3.5 either (I am
    downloading it now).

But then WHY does MS detect a need for updates (for both .Net Framework 3.5
and .Net Framework Family in my case) on the automatic update site if we
don't even have the base software to being with?!!!

    I am ready to scream!!

If you have .NET 2.0 or 3.0 installed, 3.5 is offered as it is an upgrade to
these products. (Unfortunately due to a packaging error the entire .NET 3.5 is
downloaded rather than just the additional components. MS are working on it.)

If you don't, 3.5 is still offered, but only as an optional package.
