window's update error's out every time [Error number: 0x800704DD]. i have
tried all the things in other post's. my senslogin is in the notify_disable.
how do i change this? Or any hints on how to fix this?

CAUSE
This problem occurs if the Automatic Updates service cannot impersonate the
logged-on user to finish downloading and installing the update.

Same problem here. I went to the suggested microsoft site. My problem is
that I do not have a registry entry \SensLogn . Can I create one?

I tried to install the new security patch and received the above error
message. In order to fix this I was instructed to verify that the registry
was correct.
Run: Regedit
Expand registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\SensLogn

I followed these instructions but when I got to NOTIFY... There wasn't any
SensLogn.... I went ahead and entery the registry keys as instructed, but I
am still blocked from downloading the security patch.

Any suggestions?? I'm just a novice at this stuff!

I had this problem for the past 2 weeks trying to fix it, tried every difficult suggestion I found to no avail. Then today, I fixed it easy as pie and can't believe Microsoft or no one has found the easy solution. I went back where I'd been directed before in the registry..

Run Regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\

1st: I renamed the Notify_Disabled to Notify

2nd: I renamed the Notify to Notify_Disabled

Rebooted and windows update is back!!

I did have to first ad an X to the notify or when you change the Notify_Disabled to Notify it will say it already exist.

I could not believe how easy the fix turned out to be.
Now everything is running smoothly!.

I'm having the same problem with those errors. But when I Run Regedit, there is no Notify. After I click Winlogon, the only things listed are: Credentials, GPExtensions,SCLogon, and SpecialAccounts. There is no "Notify" option. Becuase of that, that is where I get stuck.

Anyone know what to do? Why isn't there a Notify Option to click?

i exported the registry from a good working computer and imported in the one with the problem. it worked great!! use this when you dont have the SensLogn.
here is a text file with reg. info

I get the same error message. But I think I know what is causing it but can't
rectify it.

In the registry in WinNT\current version\winlogin\notify there is only a
file called "gispyqsr". This has a file dvnnitc.dll. I cannot alter,delete or
change any of these files and although my ante virus programmes pick these up
and attempt to delete them, they don't. I've tried by stopping system restore
and rebooting both in safe mode and normal. But I still can't delete these
files. Any suggestions would be welcome.

For future reference, these are values, not files.

Boot into Safe Mode. See if you can then delete the value. If not:

Try right-clicking on notify and selecting Permissions. In the dialog box that
should appear, if Administrators is present make sure it has Full Permissions
selected. If it isn't present, add it and give it Full Permissions.

If you get an error when pressing OK, you might need to go into the Permissions
Advanced options, select the Owner tab, and take ownership of the key. Then you
should be able to change the permissions.

Once the permissions are changed, you should then be able to add and delete values.

Won't let me change permissions on this directory. Not a problem on any
other, logged in as administrator but unable to delete, change or alter
anything in this directory (gispyqsr). I have put a SensLogin directory in
Notoify which was missing but this has made no difference either.
