[PA Bear [MS MVP]]

OneCare includes Defender. Installing OneCare in Vista will disable the
standalone version of Defender so don't worry about it.

1. Download the Norton Removal Tool, saving it to your desktop:

2. Right-click on the saved file and select Run as Administrator.

3. Reboot.

If it's that it was a 90 days trial, it camed along with the laptop.

I've been reading different post on this due to having the same problem with
the WindowsUpdate error 80244019. I found out it was a "DNSChanger Trojan" I
downloaded spybot search and destroy ran the program and removed the infected
items. Then I restarted my computer and my windows update worked. I hope this
helps any one who reads this.

You do realize that

1) the post in the thread you are replying to is a MONTH old
2) running Spybot only removed one *symptom* of a malware infection

You need to either have someone who is technically 'aware' peruse the
system or, visit a reputable anti-malware forum to ensure the system
gets cleaned up properly.
Otherwise the 'DNSChanger trojan' will reappear along with some of it's

Alright here it is, I'm still getting the WindowsUpdate_80244019 afte
everything suggested in this tread, trojan checker, win http servic
activation, DHCP authintication, and no joy. I've reinstalled Vist
altogether 3 times. I've gotten the same code without fail. I've change
modems, I've changed routers, I don't know what is going on!!! lol.
know that I can't download from the microsoft website at all. I got
downloads.microsoft.com and I get absolutely nothing. any tips? oh an
here is a copy of my windowsupdate.log file in its entirety. fres
install so hope it isn't to small. oh, and I am running Vista Busines

DNS.Redirector infections can affect routers as well as all networked
machines. If an uninfected machine is put on a network with an infected
machine, the uninfected machine will be (re)infected within seconds! You
MUST clean up all machines before reconnecting them to a network. In some
cases, the router will need to be reset or reinstalled, too.

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
