    unable to start automatic updates

I followed process recommended by Microsoft and after selcting Start button,
I received error 1058: Service cannot be started, either because is is
disabled or it has no enabled devices associated with it. ( Had enabled it
pror to depressing the start button.

So my question is where do I fine the enabling device associated with
    automatic updates?

Any an all help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Al

    Considerations:-

System may be infected with malware "Vundo"
    http://www.microsoft.com/security/po...=Win32%2fVundo

Service does not start and displays "Error 1058"
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241584

You cannot manually start the Automatic Updates service and you receive an
    "Error 1058"
error message on a computer that is running Windows XP or Windows XP Tablet
    PC Edition 2005
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896224

"Could not start the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service. Error 1058" error
message when you manually start the Remote Procedure Call service

RE: unable to start automatic updates

I had a similar problem, a trojan virus was the cause. I installed spybot(
it was the only virus scan that worked for me) ran scan cleared all items.
Went to djlizard.net /software/dial-a-fix. Save the zip file to desk top,
extract it . Double click on the dial-a -fix .exe & click the tool button(
icon looks like a hammer)at the bottom right on the window. select reinstall
automatic update service. You my have to install OS cd I did not have to.
After that restart windows & try automatic update service. I got this
information from Microsoft support. e-mail v-30gome@mssupport.microsoft.com.
    My system is 100% again.
