Windows XP problem

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, and I've been having a bit of trouble with my computer, so I was hoping someone could help me.

Whenever I try to open Task Manager, it doesn't stay open, as in it closes, but the icon (the little green box which gives you the CPU Usage if you hover over it) is still in the taskbar. I thought i was simply a problem with the Task Manager, so I typed task manager not working in google and went to this website:

But when I followed the steps and opened Tools under My Computer to view hidden folder, the same thing happened, where the Tools menu just closed for no reason.

Side note: The same thing also happened for the NO$GBA Emulator, which I was trying out.

Have you scanned your computer with anti-virus software

I did, but it didn't detect anything. Please help, it's really quite bad.
