Masked XP Logon password does not display

I am having a problem with a XP system. The problem is showing up in three different ways.

1. When logging into Windows, the masked password that is normally ***, instead you cannot the see the charactor that is being displayed. The cursor is moving, but nothing is displayed.

2. Some websites like 'google', on the bottom status bar you can see it loading the bitmaps, but when it is done, nothing is displayed. Page is blank. Other pages like Yahoo have some things on top of each other. some pages like MSN are fine.

3. They are running Microsoft POS backoffice. When they run their reports the reports are missing cols of data and some of the data is scrunched. The same reports using a different pc are fine (same data).

It all seems like a font problem to me, and I've reset both the IE settings and the windows settings.

I also wanted to mention that they were running ie 6.0, so I upgraded it to the ie 7.0. After the upgrade the step when you put in the final preferences... is displayed blank. Nothing on the page (but I can see that it had loaded).

I meant to get the hijack, but stumbled onto a font style change that seems to greatly improve (but not resolve) the problem.

I've found that if I check the "Ignore Font Styles Specified on Web Page", in the Accessibility options on IE, that the problem is significantly better.

Do you know how to reload XP Font Styles? Or if there is a specific font to delete and restore?
