How to boost up data transfer speed on usb 3.0

I am having a external hard drive that comes with usb 3.0 port. And I also have a pc that has two usb 3.0 ports on the front side. But it was not working before. I use the usb 2.0 port for transferring file. On that I am getting around 5mb/s only. Later on changed the usb header cable and the usb 3.0 is working and on that I am just getting around 10mb/s. I am having a urgent backup of 250GB. The drive has 1TB space. I want to know how can I boost up the speed here.

Compare to USB 2.0, USB 3.0 are lot more faster. You are getting limited speed. There can be seem reason. To test just connect the drive on the backside of your pc. Directly on the usb port and then test back. I am quiet sure you will get more than 50mb/s on the same. The front usb header might be having some issue. You can also try updating the usb drivers and then test back. It will start working. With that if you can update your motherboard drivers also then that will also help.

I get around 108mb/s of file transfer speed on usb 3.0. And that is also on the front side. The transfer speed depend on the usb driver and the hard drive that you are using in your pc. If you are having a low rpm drive then the speed will be very low. You wont be able to do anything. The speed will keep on fluctuating. I am having a WD 1TB 7400 rpm drive. This gives me a lot better file transfer speed. And things are working well here. It takes around 40minutes to move 250GB of data.
