Powershell has stopped working error in Windows 7

I am running Windows 7 operating system on my pc and recently I started getting an error message that says "Powershell has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". Even after closing the program nothing gets resolved. Every now and then this error will pop up and even when I dont confirm to close it still the error messages will continue to show up. So, can anyone tell me how do I solve this error message? Thanks

You can try to repair Windows 7 System Files with System File Checker and see if that helps. To do this, click Start, type Command Prompt or cmd in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow

After searching a lot I found out that the problem that you are facing could be related to the Kernelbase.dll file. So, you can try to restore the kernelbase.dll from the Recycle Bin incase if it is mistakenly deleted by you. Or else, if you have already emptied the Recycle Bin then you can try to recover the kernelbase.dll with the help of a free file recover program like Recuva or EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard. Hope this helps

This problem that you are facing could occur when the broken version of Hotfix 979744 is installed on your computer, and when security update 2449742 or 2446709 (part of security bulletin MS11-028) is installed in the affected environments, this problem generates the issues that are described in the "Symptoms" section. So, to resolve this issue, you can try to install the latest version of Hotfix 979744 by following the link over here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2540222/en-us
