Error 0x80070057 Cannot make system restore disk

I have tried just about everything stated in the threads here ... but none of the work. What now? I am at a complete loss ...

First of all boot your computer by inserting Windows 7 installation disc. After that when you see the setup window, then click on Repair from the lower left corner. Now select command prompt from the main Repair menu and at the command prompt type recdisc and then press Enter. You will now get a popup to choose which drive letter to create the Recovery disc to. Now get a clean DVD in the DVD drive and choose Start. This way you will get your System Repair disc created.

OK, tried it. But, after choosing repair I get a pop up (in Swedish) that says that the version on my computer (W7 Pro SP1) is not compatible with the version on the DVD (W7 Pro SP1).

I tried booting from a USB-stick and after having started recdisc.exe and it looked like it might ... I got the following error message:
"System repair disc could not be created. The device reported unexpected or invalid data for a command 0x00AA02FF."
I tried booting from another USB-stick and got the same message as in my post this morning.
I'm baffled ...

Can you try to run sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt. Also, check to make sure that your CD/DVD drive is assigned to letter D and E. If you have multiple hard drives then you are supposed to face this problem because the default drive assigned to make the disc is D and E. So, try to reconfigure your drive to the letter that I have told and see if that works.

However, the 100 MB partition (on C reserved for system has no drive letter.
Drives F: to M: are reserved for memory cards.

The issue that you are facing is mostly caused because of a software called Truecrypt volume mounted when you are trying to create a system repair disc. You just have to dismount the Truecrypt volume and then clear the error and then sysetm repair disc will be created easily. Hope this will help you out.

Sorry, but I don't have TrueCrypt or any other encrypted volumes or containers. I have also checked my active Service and stopped a couple that "could be associated with TrueCrypt".
All to no avail!!

Incase you are facing problem making system restore disks on a HP computer using the Windows 7 utility then it might be possible that you will have to use the HP Recovery Media Creation utility which came with your computer. Otherwise you can also try to use another Lightscribe CD in the drive and see if that burns properly.

The PC is not an HP.
I have tried both CD -R and DVD -R and neither work.

I was facing the same issue. I was using Windows 8 in my pc which doesnt have built in Cd/DVD burning program. Most of the functions were missing but some operations still can be performed. Later on I installed a free cd/dvd burning software called InfraRecorder and then the problem was solved. I was able to create Windows 8 recovery disk without any error messages.

Installed InfraRecorder, but to no avail.
The Windows 7 create a system recovery disc fails before its time to burn to the CD/DVD. It fails when I choose to make the disc on my BD-RE Unit D:

It could be possible that your hard drive is going bad. So, you can download a free bootable hard drive test to check it and for that you can get Hiren's boot cd which comes with a program called MHDD which is used to diagnose and attempt to fix any bad sectors on your drive. But even if you do this and it works then also you will need to replace the drive later.
