Can we use custom fields for resources in Project 10?

I use Project 10. I wanted to know that when I’m not using any kind of resource view, is there any way of displaying that resource Text field instead of Gantt chart?

I’ve developed a WBS in a custom task text field. I want to show WBS number on the usage view.

All I can do as of now is by a manual process of inputting all those numbers while in the resource usage view.

Any other option, I mean some automated alternate?

I don’t know if you are aware of the fact that the default WBS field is customizable by the user. And you can insert the WBS field in the Resource Usage view.

You’ve got to customize the view which is automatically updated in the Usage view.

That was indeed a great advice. But I would like add something here.
Neither a task field, nor a resource view can be viewed in each other by default. But this can be achieved by using macro. Define your fields with option “Roll down unless manually entered’.

Create another field for other entry using the same option. Then use a macro to copy values of task field from assignment level to the corresponding resource field on assignment level

Actually, you don’t really need a macro. Once the roll down option is set as what Barbara suggests, you’ll see a resource custom field rolling down in the Resource Usage view.

And a Task custom field rolls down automatically in the Task Usage View.
But, if you wish to see resource custom field in task usage or a task custom field in resource usage view, you’ll need a VBA macro.

In Task Views such as the Gantt Chart, you can See Resource Name, Resource Initials and Resource Group fields. So in case you don't wish to see resource initials or group, re-use them for your custom data.

Macros are meant to copy a task field to a resource text field independent of the name of the field. In the macros, you have decide on the text fileds.

I hope you are aware that in the macro you have to use the original name (for instance Text23) and not the friendly name ("Custom WBS”?).

I usually edit an existing resource field. There’s about 4-5 that do get moved over to the task view.

    - Resource Name

    - Resource Initials

    - Resource Phonetics

    - Resource Group

    Just use one of those.
