Unable to connect with serial ports in VMware

I have installed VMware Player on my computer to play Windows 98 apps which are not playing on Windows XP computer. I am having some old hardware which are not running on supported on Windows XP. Items which are attached to the Host computers Com1 port. I am looking to give me Win98 VM appliance to access the winmodem which was installed on Windows XP host computer. I tried lots of method but I am sure about the thing there was something which was happened really bad.

    Host Configuration:
    P4 2.8 Ghz Processor w/HT
    300Gb Maxtor SATA HD
    2.5Gb DDR RAM
    Windows XP Pro w/SP3
LPT1: & COM1: are enabled in BIOS, VMware Player version 3.0.1
COM1 is connected with external peripheral, Internal 'winmodem' was assigned to COM2 in host OS. Host is not having internet access at that particular time.
    VMware Appliance Configuration
    LPT1, COM1 & COM2 were enabled in virtual' BIOS.
2 serial port devices were added in the VM settings.
Virtual Printer was not installed on your computer.
VMware Tools and "WinPre2K were installed without having any issue.
As per theory Windows 98 hardware manage should work with VM's serial devices through the physical ports but it did not seems to working at all. Let me know if you are having any idea on the same.

Well in this particular situation you will need com1 from the motherboard which has been used in guest account of the Windows XP and other guest account of Windows 98. The host should be Windows 7 x64. There is need of connecting with modem to get the alarm systems.

I think VMware is seems to missing some of the data when you are looking to configure the virtual serial port and you will require to have pipe name in this particular format. The format should be of \pipe\<name&gt.
You will be able to put anything in the place of <name>
So try it and let me know whether it was useful to fix the matter of yours or not.

As far as I know support for the serial and parallel ports that get worse after the version 3.1.4. the same thing is happening with 3.1.5 and 4.* versions. But I am expecting that developer would have look on that and try to fix that issue and release the patch.
