How to upgrade vlc-1.1.10 on Ubuntu-11.04

I am having Ubuntu 11.04 installed in my laptop. And I am having vlc 1.1.10 installed in it. But now when I am trying to upgrade my vlc from 1.1.9 to 1.1.10 it does not get upgraded. Every time I try to upgrade and it ends up with the same vlc 1.1.9. I am not able to upgrade it properly, so can anyone guide me to upgrade it so that I can install vlc 1.1.10 in my laptop.

There is only one way to upgrade your vlc 1.1.10 in your Ubuntu 11.04, you need to run the following code in your Ubuntu:

    Code:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/vlc
    sudo apt-get update
This will help you to upgrade your older version of the vlc to new vlc 1.1.10

I think that Ubuntu will be providing only the critical PulseAudio and security fix in the 11.04 version of Ubuntu. But yes you can try this code and see that you will be able to upgrade your vlc 1.1.9 to vlc 1.1.10. Enter the following code:

    Code:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/vlc
    sudo apt-get update
After entering the above code you need to go to the update manager. There you will be able see the updates available for the new vlc version.

I am also facing the same issue as you have mentioned. I am very much new to the Ubuntu Operating System and whenever I play any videos through vlc, I see that the audio is always 300 to 500 msecs delayed. So I wanted to upgrade my vlc player to avoid this bug. But I am not able to get any proper solution to do this. So please if anybody can guide me also then it would be greatly appreciated.

There is a simple way to install the vlc 1.1.10 in your Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid, 10.10 Maverick and also on the 11.04 Natty. You just need to open the Terminal window and type the following code in to it:

    Code:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/vlc
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install vlc mozilla-plugin-vlc vlc-plugin-pulse
This will install the new vlc plugins in your existing vlc and upgrade it to the available version of the vlc.

You need to install the GetDeb package in your system. This will help you in adding the GetDeb repository in your system. After installation run this to upgrade it. You need to run this code in order to upgrade it:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade
After installing this package you will be prompted to install the updates that are available not only for vlc but also for other applications.

See to it that vlc is only available for the Natty version of the Ubuntu and not for the other versions. But if you are using Lucid, then you can use Pidgin. So see to it that if you’re using this code then it is only useful for the Natty version of the Ubuntu and not for other. But before that you need to install the PPA. You can add this manually to your system.
