    Is it fine if I use a DX11 with a DX10 GPU

I just upgraded my system to windows 7 home 64bit.And in this I have a GTS of 250 core edition with full DX 10 support. But as you know that Windows 7 has the support of DX 11. Also the DX dialog shows that I have DX 11 support. So it is all confusion over this and I am not at all sure about this DX 11.So please help me out on this issue. I am waiting for the replies and would like to thank you in advance.

I just had a look at the question that you have put up and would tell you that it is a bit weird. I think that that if you have DX11 installed then it will definitely support all previous versions of Direct X. So you don’t have to worry about this. So you just need to remember that you don't have to worry at all about the latest version that you have got right now. So I personally feel that it is fine if you use a DX11 with a DX10 GPU.

I just think that you need to be sure that the latest version which you have installed is actually the latest and the greatest version your card. But I would tell you that you cannot play games with DX11 effects if you only have a DX10 card with you. And I am quite sure about this. Also the DX11 effects require specific circuit and that has to be the part of the GPU. So I am very sure that it’s very difficult to use a DX11 with a DX10 GPU.

According to me it actually doesn’t matter that the GTX250 only goes well with the dx10 or not. I can tell you from my experience that any game that you play will use the DX10 library. Also if I upgrade to a GTX 460 or a DX11 card games then it will definitely use the dx11 library. So I am very sure about this thing. So for me you can actually say that it is actually possible and you can go ahead with it.

Thanks a lot for the solutions that you have provided. I just went through them and feel that they are really very handy and has lowered my confusion a lot. I agree with the fact that it doesn’t matter that the GTX250 only goes well with the dx10 or not. Also if feel that it is right if I upgrade to a GTX 460 or a DX11 card games then also I can definitely use the dx11 library. So I would like to thank you all for providing me with the solutions as they helped me a lot.
