Ubuntu Privacy Remix is based on Ubuntu Linux was, however, strongly modified relative. The motivation for this project, the developers brought out the lack of data security. You believe that you protect yourself not only in the traditional Internet criminals must have a bomb with Trojan horses, rootkits and keyloggers. Other interest groups would seek to spy on users. For the processing of confidential data is therefore an isolated working environment with security. Ubuntu Privacy Remix is used for this purpose - a tool that protects data from unauthorized access. I would like to go bit deep. Files using TrueCrypt and GnuPG to encrypt is indeed a very good start, but does not provide 100 percent protection. Because if such documents with Microsoft Office or Google Desktop opens, put the copies of the files on the hard disk.

Files using TrueCrypt and GnuPG to encrypt is indeed a very good start, but does not provide 100 percent protection. Because if such documents with Microsoft Office or Google Desktop opens, put the copies of the files on the hard disk.
Furthermore, it has a rootkit on a mounted TrueCrypt drive access just like any other storage medium of this computer. Similarly, a keylogger could Sniffing passwords and then send this encrypted along with the files to an attacker. Thus, the security could overturn it pretty quickly. Ubuntu Privacy Remix is, as already mentioned, on a CD that possible can not be described further. Thus, that can be operating system in itself is not time to change permanently. Furthermore, the kernel is modified to activate any network-capable hardware can. Therefore, all drivers physically removed. Via WLAN, LAN, Bluetooth and infrared system can therefore send or not send data. Local hard drives also ignored UPR. This might be compromised and pose a possible danger. Introduced malicious code can therefore no data stored on the plates of UPR, and it can also make wide no pests from the storage media in the system. Users have the option, certain settings and program configurations in an enlarged TrueCrypt drive store. This will enable the use of UPR make a little more pleasant.

Order to even edit data with Ubuntu Privacy Remix can be the system to the incorporation of removable media. This prevents the operating system with "noexec" field. Thus, no programs are running from a removable disk, which infect the current system with malicious code or compromise. This is also true for TrueCrypt drives. These security measures give almost the impression that Ubuntu Privacy Remix is inviolable. Not quite true: Even UPR has its limits, and it proves true the saying: "Where there's a will there's a way". However, attackers have been swinging the club very rough to get your information. These include attacks below the operating system level. This one is as virtualization layer between the hardware and operating system imaginable, which takes possession of your data. Special hardware keylogger could help data to spy on the computer. These are but a potential attacker must first obtain physical access to that computer.

Another possibility is the camera installed in the room, but this must be a villain first gain entry. Then there is the radiation with which it can be reconstructed more than 100 yards away as the video signal. Radiation from wired keyboards by the way in a study of Technology found. This could then be displayed on a second screen again. The last thing would be called or the Cold Boot attacks mentioned. When turning off the power without shutting down the system could be even more data in memory. This would require the attacker to run a minimal operating system that itself uses little memory. Tests showed UPR-makers of that data fragments from two to three minutes without electricity in the memory of the system can detect and read more. Since UPR 8.04r3 the operating system writes thus shutting down the free memory. Before real cold boot attacks protects, however. All the above attack scenarios mean, however, a significant human and technical effort.

    Download for Ubuntu Privacy Remix

Ubuntu Privacy Remix is a free project and therefore free. The developers are looking forward to its own words via suggestions, bug reports and constructive criticism. An ISO image you can from one of the download mirrors. As befits such a distribution, the developers have also point to security risks. You can not guarantee that the download servers are never compromised. This applies even more to DNS spoofing and other attacks, malicious user to redirect the server. After a download the user should necessarily GPG-signed with the ISO image, check.

Today the essential functionality of the network seems to be to remove completely exaggerated. But it lies with each individual to determine how its data are truly confidential. The developers submit plausible arguments why you should have Ubuntu Privacy Remix virtually in your pocket. There are plenty of other Linux systems, with firewall, AppArmor and SELinux are other safety features. Such an option would have the developers can actually save in the. Ubuntu Privacy Remix is, however, unique in the operating system. Who wants to protect its data up to that is the right place.
