Convert QuickTime to MPG or AVI or WMV?

What can I do with the QuickTime file format? I am finding difficulty in converting the file in the QuickTime format to any other formats. The thing is that I was able to deal with the situation but the problem has started to come up with the when I was using the newer QuickTime movies. Can you all please tell me the way by which I can convert the QuickTime Movie to the MPG or AVI or WMV? Anyone can suggest me a free utility that can help me gain this. I will be really grateful to you all. I have some o the suggestions ready but I do not think that they are worth of giving a try.
