Microsoft Outlook 2007 used with Office 2010 has some lost features

I had installed Office 2010 Student/Home edition. I had installed Outlook 2007 as my mail user. Features are busy in MS-Outlook because "Word 2007 is not installed". Whatever happened to "release compatibility"? What gives? I would consider that 2007 and 2010 would be compatible. I have lost needed features in MS-Outlook because I have upgraded to Office 2010 and didn't buy MS-Outlook 2010. Is there a solution for this issue? Or, did Microsoft drop the ball yet again only to punish loyal customers.
