There are lots of online site which coverts your documents directly to pdf. A another familar tool which I use is PDF Converter Pro. You can also go for some open source pdf convertor which always remains free and works on many platforms. Free PDF to Word Converter 1.1 is also an free tool for the same. Free PDF to Word Converter is perhaps not a very glamorous name but he finally allows you to extract more or less properly texts and images within PDF files.
