Installing vmware tools bt4 pre -final

    Hi,
I need some help in installation various tools of Vmware on my Windows 7 system. I want to run Windows XP on it and work on various tools. The first I want to do is add a usb device and share a folder. How to get a snapshot in the installation. The other thing which is quiet important for me to do is to clone a drive. How to do that for backup purpose.

Note that you can at any time suspend the operation of your virtual machine by clicking the Suspend. Once the deployment of your virtual operating system is completed, you can install additional tools from VMware. Click on VM / Install VMware Tools then on the Install button and let it guide you throughout the installation process. You will then be possible to switch between your two operating systems simply by moving the mouse outside the virtual machine.

You can save a snapshot of your virtual machine by clicking the Take snapshot of virtual machine. The state of your virtual machine will be recorded as it was at that time. You can return at any time by clicking the Manage Snapshots from Virtual Machine. To return to a previous state just select it and click the Go button to. Two files will be generated. The first is Windows XP Professional.vmx which means information about your virtual machine and Windows XP Professional.vmdk is the configuration file of your disk. You can edit them by using the Windows Notepad.

You can immediately surf the Internet but also to copy and paste your documents the virtual machine to the host computer. Now, how does the sharing of files. Click on VM / Settings, Options tab, then the branch Shared folders. Here Add > Next and add a name, then click the Browse button. Then choose the folder and next. Check the box Read-only if you do not want you to edit documents from the virtual machine. Check the box Disable after this session if you do not want the partition to be active after you restart your virtual machine.

It is possible to share a folder in Vmware. For that you have to open network place. The path for that is Host \ Shared folders \ Share \ Name Sharing. More simply you can also use the functionality of drag and drop to and from the virtual machine. Burn all the the size of the window of VMware. Select a file and drop it on the desktop for example the host system.

Finally, there is a feature that allows you to clone your virtual disks. This allows you to quickly duplicate a virtual machine without having to reinstall the system or applications added later. Click on VM > Clone and then click the Next button. Choose whether you want to clone your machine in its current state or from a snapshot Snpashot then click the Next button. Check the radio button Create a full clone then click Next. The option Create a linked clone requires less disk space, but your new virtual machine can not run if you remove the machine parent.

It may be that you have to restart your virtual machine. Your USB key will appear in Windows Explorer. You will not avoid the appearance of the dialog box You can withdraw your device safely because the way it was swiped the key to the host system. If you want to test an ISO image of a bootable disk you must first make sure that the system will take into account from the system startup: Click on VM / Settings. Select the branch CD-ROM (IDE 1:0) and then check Connect at power on.
