Windows 7 folder name bug when using periods/dots

Has anybody in addition noticed this irritating bug when using folder names with periods/dots under Windows 7 that consequences in the name being cropped. For illustration, in my Drivers folder I come into view at present to have two folders with accurately the similar names, ATI Catalyst 10, because the names are cropped subsequent to the period under Explorer. Perceptibly they are not indistinguishable as Windows does not permit this. Their full names are ATI Catalyst 10.3 and ATI Catalyst 10.4b and together these filenames demonstrate fully and correctly when using the Bulk Rename Utility v2.7.1.1 (x64) to display the directory. It seems that if there is a space and additional filename subsequent to the period/dot then the name displays properly under Explorer, e.g. ATI Catalyst 10.3 WHQL and ATI Catalyst 10.4b Beta display as predictable.

The merely thing you be able to imagine of is if you have the folder alternative "hide file name conservatory to known file types" checked on your computer. It generates the computer hide anything subsequent to the period for a file type a program is connected with. Even though it seems farfetched, Windows might imagine the folder is an authentic file with a known conservatory Ie: ABC.jpg would merely demonstrate you "ABC" in explorer. You have to go to folder alternative and observe if unchecking this helps to demonstrate the folder name correctly.

When an item starts with a "." it frequently is followed by a file type. At present, if you desire to generate a folder called "config" you be able to, then you have a config folder. But you cannot name everything ".config" for the reason that it would create it a config file, not presently a folder named config.config, if you keep in mind right is a arrangement setting. The Windows create imagine you are playing with the structure of windows, and does not similar to it.

Here might be a bug. You might be noticed in an Explorer Window, that when you choose a folder with a interlude in the name, that the innovative Explorer Bar (presently below the old Menu Bar, if you have it showing) it demonstrate the Explore image wrongly. E.g., the Config.Msi folder demonstrates the Windows Installer image, the $RECYCLE.BIN folder demonstrates the generic image, as does Windows.old, a folder named xyz.txt demonstrate a Notepad image, etc. Otherwise, a folder preferred without a period in the name always has the similar Explore image.

If somebody else have the difficulty you can solved the problem, it was the entire because you followed the tweaks and complete the explorer open target is %windir%\explorer.exe /n,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} and you reserved open your system from that image with the innovative target . And this is the difficulty when you open using your system everything is ok, when you utilize this tweaked explorer you get the difficulty so you have to delete the explorer switch and complete a system shortcut down to you Quick Launch bar and at present there will be no difficulty at all.

It occurred too many of them. You do not have a method but it occurred from time to time. When you work with %windir%\explorer.exe /n,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} - it worked extremely well - strange. The difficulty is that each folder name with dot - the letters subsequent to the dos are disappeared Annoying method to sort this problem out is kill the explorer procedure and start it again - via the task manager ITs occurred to you subsequent to few month of running with your Windows 7 - and subsequent to it first occurred - it never stop most of them face this problem in the last 4 months Looking for a real explanation for it.
