ripping disc with Windows Media Player problem

I don't understand. I have an old 2 disc CD - legitimately purchased from a store. I rip Disc 1 with Windows Media - no problem. I rip Disc 2 - I get little squares for the first half of the track description and then the rest of the info is fine. I put both Discs into one playlist and sync to a MP3 player - no problem. I then try to sync the same playlist to a second MP3 player and tracts on Disc 2 come up with error icons - media rights missing. I create a new playlist, doing the same thing as before and no problem syncing them to the MP3. The properties for tracts from both Discs is the same - file is not protected. So, why is there a problem? What exactly does 'file is not protected' mean? Do media usage rights still apply? and is there a way around them? Thanks very much.
