It is important to understand the difference between "update" and "restore. In an update only installs the software that controls iPod and it does not affect the songs and files stored on the iPod disk. When restoring, the iPod erases the disk and restores iPod to original factory settings. Because Restore erases all songs and files on iPod, so make sure to back up any files you've saved on the iPod disk. All songs, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, and games can be loaded back to your iPod provided that you have stored in your iTunes library.

    Try restoring your ipod :

    • Make sure you have an active Internet connection because it may need to be downloaded to your computer for new versions of iTunes and iPod.
    • Download and install the latest version of iTunes if you have not yet installed.
    • Open iTunes, then connect your iPod to your computer using the USB or FireWire cable that comes with the iPod.
    • After a few seconds, the iPod appears in iTunes.
    • Select your iPod in the Source pane to make the information on the iPod appears in the Summary tab of the main iTunes window.
    • Click the Restore button

To reset an iPod with Click Wheel,Toggle the Hold switch (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo (7 to 9 seconds).connect your iPod to a power adapter and plug into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is on and is not in standby mode. If you have any problem resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touch another part of the click wheel. Also, be sure to press the Menu button toward the outside and not near the center of the click wheel.
