What is Musical Instrument Digital Interface

    Hi,
Today there are various sound formats used widely to transfer and generate audio files. But my interest lies with MIDI. It is the most compatible and widely used file format. I need some more information on the same. It is now there are variety of formats but still in some of my applications this sound format is the most supported one. I need an entire overview of this sound technology. Thanks in advance.

MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, ie, Musical Instrument Digital Interconnect. Thinking correctly that standardization would expand the market for many years, MIDI has become an absolute standard and indisputable, while dropper expanded with new specifications. Today, even the keyboards domestic low-medium range feature MIDI connectors.

MIDI stands under shelter two elements: a hardware and communications software. In short, this is a standard method for interconnecting electronic musical devices of all kinds: synthesizers, keyboards teachers, sound modules, samplers, drum machines, sequencers, mixers, etc. On the physical side, we have a range of 32.5 Kbps interface, equipped with one, two or three DIN connectors 5 points.

As for the software, this is a very simple communication protocol, 8 bits, which are encoded most important aspects of musical performance. It is a real time system.. For simplicity, MIDI messages come to symbolize the same information as a score. The MIDI system structure carries information in 16 different channels simultaneously. Each message carries with it the channel number that is affected, so there is no confusion possible.

In MIDI synthesizers are Multitimbral that means capable of generating various sounds - bells, different time, each of the parts of the synthesizer should know what notes should be interpreted, and how sound. There are MIDI messages in charge of timing, interpretation, etc. So here you can see why it so widely acclaimed.

When you press a note, it transmits MIDI information which channel is being used, what note was struck, and how strongly (MIDI velocity). When released, it sends a message indicating the MIDI channel and note number released. Some keyboards advanced (and expensive) can also transmit the speed with which the key is released, which regulates the time of release (fade) of sound. Note that, unlike the score, the duration of MIDI notes is not sent as such, because transmission occurs in real time a note lasts the time that elapses between the receipt of messages and press release.
