problem with windows media player 12

when i try to open streaming video the next message apeares:

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:")."

I know that there is a solution (for win XP) to Rename the folder "%USERPROFILE%\local settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Media\10.0

but i have windows 7 and i can't find this folder.

    need help!
    thank you...

I am facing the same problem with windows media player 7 while streaming online videos. I searched a lot to get a solution but it seems that the problem is not solved yet. The patch for Windows media player 12 will be available soon which is supposed to solve the problem but till then we will just have to wait.

ok... finally i contacted microsoft support and i have a solution!
I have windows 7 so maybe if you got different OS it is located some place else:

    go to-
c:\users\YOURUSERNAME\appdata\local\microsoft\windows media\12(or the ver. you have)
now there is a file named WMSDKNS.xml

change the name to WMSDKNSold and that fixed the problem...
    goos luck

Even I have changed that in Windows XP. i think that you should get the folder in the Windows 7 too, since it is the advanced version of XP. But here you are having the Windows Media Player 12, so the path will be
    %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Media

And in this folder you will have to rename the folder 12.0 to 12.0 bak

Do you have any music selections shown in the jumplist? Maybe something there is corrupt. On your WMP12 press the "Alt" key, under the "Tools"--> "Advanced" select "Restore Media Library." This will empty your library. Just exit WMP and launch it again to reload your library from scratchGo to control Panel, Programs and Features, Turn Windows features on or off. Select Media Player and uncheck it, then come back and recheck it. Perhaps this would basically reinstall it.
