Cannot open Excel 2007 file

Hi,
I have received some Microsoft Excel files in a mail. The format of those files is .xlsx. That means they belong to Microsoft Office 2007. I had downloaded and install the same. When I click on those file they take a long time to open and the Excel hangs in between. I think this files consist of virus. I need some suggestions to open this file. The file consist of some valuable data in it. Help needed. Thanks.

The files can be corrupted or possess some threat. Due to which your antivirus might be blocking it. You can first try to disable your antivirus protection and try it. If still the file does not open then you can simply your Wordpad or Notepad to fetch the content from the file. Right click on the file and click open with. In the windows browse for notepad or wordpad and select it. Then give ok. The file will be opened and you can see the content inside it.

The same file which you are trying to open with Office 2007 you can open it with Ms Word 2003. All you need is to get a office compatibility pack for your Microsoft office. Or you can also get docx to doc converter tool. The tool is freely available with converts the Office 2007 file to Office 2003. In this way if you have a different pc with a older version of office you can view the file in it.

I think your file is corrupted. Because of which the file is now working. You can do one thing. Open Excel. Press Ctrl + o. Here in the box select the file and below the open button you can see a down arrow. In the arrow choose repair or recover. Excel will recover the files and you can fetch the file information in the same manner. Second thing you can also get a docx reader. It reads Office 2007 files.

First check the source from which you downloaded and installed MS Office 2007. then after that, do a a virus scan on those Excel Files. If there is any probable problem with the source, or the host is unreliable, try to get a valid licensed copy of Office 2007.
