How to disable auto format in excel

    Hi,

I have a tab-delimited file that I open with Excel. But every time I open it, Excel automatically changes the value (eg 10-28-00) to the date format (10/28/2009). If I change the format of the text generally, changing the date. Even import data are processed, but the function remains the same.

If the file is a .Txt then when you do is File - Open Excel automatically take you through the Text Import Wizard. Here you can delimiters specify what line to start, etc. but also can say Excel that you want some columns to be treated as text. So maybe if you changed the file name .Txt.

You can import as text (*. txt or no extension at all) and the use of the mark assistant columns you wish to hold the exact representation not as text (the third step). Then, to convert the numbers with the correct number of decimals can be read each cell, find the period and then reproduced with a format. Note however that Excel will only save the number in its entirety if it is not 'important' decimal format are displayed correctly, This is how it is in Excel.

    You can try this :
    1. Go to Tools - click on Options
    2. On the Edit tab, un-check the box next to Extend Data Range Formats and Formulas
    3. Then click OK
