In order to separate chapters or parts of a text, you can insert a horizontal line decorated. Word has indeed dozens of predefined lines that you can use to decorate your documents.

    1. In your document, move to the location where you want your horizontal line.
    2. Click the Format menu, click Borders and Shading. Under Office 2007, click the Layout tab of the ribbon and on Office Page Borders area Background page.
    3. In the window that appears, click the horizontal line.
    4. Select a model line and then click OK.
    5. The separation is then added. You can easily resize it by clicking and using the handles located at each end.

In a document, it can happen to need to draw a horizontal line above or below text.

    • To put it to you where you want to insert the line.
    • In the "T shaped" menu , click on "Borders and Shading". Click the "Horizontal Line" at the bottom.
    • Finally choose the line style you want to insert.

To separate paragraphs in a Word document, you can insert horizontal lines. Rather than go through the menu borders Ribbon Office, you can use simple keyboard shortcuts and saving time.

Place the cursor where to insert a horizontal line.

Enter three dashes --- and press the enter key.

The three dashes are replaced by a horizontal line.
