You can use the Validation options menu to prevent the Accumulation of duplicates in a range of cells:

    For example Excel2002:

Select the cell range A1: A10.
    Use the Data menu
    Option Validation
    Options Tab
Select the Custom option in the list of choices.
    Enter in the Formula field: NB.SI = ($ A $ 1: $ A $ 10, A1) <2
Click the OK button to confirm.
Now a warning message will appear when two identical data will be entered into the range A1: A10.

The conditional formatting is a handy tool to quickly view the data that appears multiple times in a range of cells.

In Excel 2002, conditional formatting is available through the menu Format / Conditional Formatting. In Excel 2007, conditional formatting is available in the Home tab, Styles group.
e criteria for formatting can be defined by formulas that check whether data are similar in the range of cells. The functions used are of logical type and return a True or False result.

Select all the rows, including the column headers, in the list you want to filter.

On the Data menu, point to Filter, and then click Advanced Filter.
In the Advanced Filter dialog box, click Filter the list, in place.
Select the Unique records only check box, and then click OK.

The filtered list is displayed and the duplicate rows are hidden.
