I am getting a host of error messages.
A. Will start with WORD 2003 as there is no workaround. Error messages are:
1. "Word could not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable"
2. "The command cannot be performed......" "Word cannot open the existing (Normal.dot)
Problem:
1. Cannot save any file either with Save or Save As
2. Sometimes cannot copy work when this happens
What works:
1. Uninstalling Office and then reinstalling.
However, this only works for a short while and the problem starts again.
What I have done:
1. used Office Repair
2. uninstalled all normal.dots
3. created a cache folder as per techrepublic:
Access the Registry Editor (Go into regedit from the command menu) and look at the caches in the following areas:
-HKEY_current_user\software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\Shell Folders
Ensure that the "cache" file points to a valid location and drive. Change to a existing location or create one, if that was not the case. I changed the location on user shell folders (Where the problem was for me) to c:\temp to keep it simple.
I may not have done this step correctly, but whatever I did did not make a difference.
BL: I need to use WORD for editing. Note/Word pad only go so far.
B. Hard Drives:
1. Error Message: "“Windows – No Disk Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf9c …bla..bla..“.
Problem: CD/RW is "working properly" but in fact, I can't use it (reading or writing).
What I have not done: tried to reassign drive letters
All of this seems to me to be a compatibility issue. The 2 likely candidates are WD My Passport external drive and a 3G modem.
Anyway to get WORD and CD/RW back working would be greatly appreciated.
