There might be problem due to the third party application or addons first Reset the preferences.Look out help file for proper direction start InDesign and use CMD ALT SHIFT
This is may be due to undo buffer becomes completely not accessible .so nothing works and we need to restart in order to get the InDesign worked back also there may be some option key that inaccessible due to problem in InDesign.
so i think some update can help ...
There is undo bug exist for indesign to solve this problem you need to search for patches.Check for your current operating system updates and patch for indesign also try to deleting preferences and restart the application make sure you have not bad font. uninstalled plug-ins.
InDesign offers a few ways to Undo
* Undo
o Press Control + Z (Windows) or Command + Z (Mac Os),
or
o Go to Edit > Undo (name of command you have just used).
The Undo command works with just about any action you perform in InDesign and you can undo everything up to the point where you opened your document.
However if you want to discard more than a few actions, instead of using so many undos it is much faster to just back up to a previous version of your document.
* Revert: Go to File > Revert. You will go back to the last time you have saved your document.
