Definition of a Object Linking and Embedding

I am learning Web Designing... & has got stuck at a place with a word called "OLE". So i just wanted to know what is a OLE technology and how it offers embedding and linking ???

Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) is a technology that allows embedding and linking to documents and other objects developed by Microsoft. For developers, it brought OLE Control eXtension (OCX), a way to develop and use custom user interface elements. On a technical level, an OLE object is any object that implements the IOleObject interface, possibly along with a wide range of other interfaces, depending on the object's needs.

Microsoft Software by the technology of the information that two or different types from archives can be inserted in a document, stored in another file, of two ways. In "Linking" , the archives remain separated, but the information in a file is updated, the tie information in the other file is updated automatically.
