    Error 0x80004005

All of a sudden I get this error message when trying to send and receive email.

An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Server: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x80004005

I can log on through sky.com and access email perfectly so don't think that it is a Sky issue ( which has happened before)

A couple of times an email has made it through before the error message comes up but mostly nothing does. Also, if I try to send an email it just tells me it can't be sent.

All email settings are correct and have tried rebooting. Have tried deleting all old messages from sky.com and Windows Mail as suggested in other threads but no joy.

I have seen other threads suggesting problems with antivirus -( we have Norman that came with the laptop,) and solutions suggesting downloading Windows Live Mail - will that allow me to check an @sky.com email address or does it purely work for hotmail/ live.co.uk etc?

    Any input gratefully received, thanks

    Re: Error 0x80004005

the problem is due to the account that is being used to access the page does not have access to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC registry key.
    1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
    2. Select the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC
    3. On the Security menu, click Permissions.
    4. Type the required permissions for the account that is accessing the Web page.
    5. Quit Registry Editor.
