sad Unable to restore files fron external HDD

    Hi

I used my external hard drive for backing up my system (Vista home premium). Now I've been trying to restore files and these are the step and responses:
    1. Backup and restore centre.
    2. Advanced Restore
    3. Advanced Restore
    4. "Files from the latest backup made on this computer"
    5. Then I check the " Restore Everything In This Backup" then "Next"
    6. I Chose to save the restored files " In their original location" then "Restore"

This is the message I get:

"Restore did not finish successfully. Error code:

the backup file could not be found. Check your hardware configuration or restore from a different backup (0*8100001A)"
    ---------------

Then I changed step 4 to:

    4. " File from a backup made on a different computer."
    8. Then I select the external HDD.
    9. On the list I tried all the backups and it takes me to step 6
    6. Then I click "Add folders"
10 When I click the backup folder in the drive I get the message " NTSAKISI-PC" is not in the backup. Please try a different file or folder.

Please help. Where did I go wrong?

    Thanx in advance.

Re: Unable to restore files fron external HDD

If the backup directory is on a different drive or on a different file share, and the original backup location is still available, follow these steps to resolve the problem:

    1. Locate the root directory of the drive or the file share where the backup was originally stored.
    2. Copy the Mediaid.bin file.
    3. Locate the root directory of the location where the backup is currently stored.
    4. Paste the Mediaid.bin file.

For example, if the original backup location is drive D, and the backup was moved to drive E, copy the Mediaid.bin file that is located in the root directory of drive D to the root directory of drive E.
    5. Try to restore another backup file.
