LOOKUP.XLAM is already open in Excel 2007

    hi friends,

Everytime I open Excel 2007, I get the following error message:
"LOOKUP.XLAM is already open. Reopening will cause any changes you made to be discarded. Do you want to reopen LOOKUP.XLAM"

About which file this is concerned of ? I also tried closing all Excel windows and open it again but the error is still continuing !!!
    Any ideas..

I was also facing the same problem - Excel 2007 used to open with the "LOOKUP.XLAM is already open" error message. Well, using Regedit I noticed that in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Excel\Options , the addins were listed with strings Open, Open1, Open2, Open3 etc. Each String was the path to an addin. I found that Open2 and Open3 both pointed to lookup.xlam.

Hence, after backing up the registry,
    - I deleted HKCU\.....Open3
    - closed the registry
    and then
    - reopened

    I found that HKCU.....Options\Open? had renumbered starting at Open4 (became Open3) Open5 - Open4, Open6 - Open 5 ..... Open10 - Open9.

Now, Excel 2007 opens without any such error and the other addins also work perfectly, so this worked for me.

You must try finding the file on your system in the C drive....and set it to read-only. You can find the file using regedit and then right-click the file and select properties to set the file to read-only. After this, the file will open as read-only everytime and you shouldn't face any problems with the add-in.

This is a pretty common problem for which there is no perfect solution provided by Microsoft. Ultimately one has to uninstall and reinstall Office to rootly remove this problem.

I had this issue, & solved it quickly thru the UI. No filesystem or registry hacks required.
Remove the "Lookup Wizard" addin & add it back again.

    Steps:
    1. Click Excels "Window" button in upper Left corner.
    2. Click "Excel Options" button in lower right of menu.
    3. Click "Add-Ins" tab in left pane.
    4. Change Manage drowdown to "Excel Add-ins" & click Go... button.
    5. UnCheck "Lookup Wizard" addin. Click OK.
    6. Exit Excel.

If you are using the Lookup Wizard add-in, go thru the same procedure above to check it on again.

That sorted the issue out for me.
