How to view animated gif files in Vista

Few days back, I have upgraded my Windows from XP to Vista. Everything seems to be working well except that when I try to view the animated gif files in my Vista, it doen't open or play. What is the problem ? Well, it used to work fine in my XP. My question is how can I view these animated gif files in Vista ?

    Any ideas.,

Windows Explorer and Windows Photo Gallery doesn't support and display animated gifs files. Internet Explorer as well as IrfanView supports and plays these animated gifs.

Download IrfanView to view animated gif files in your Vista...

    Try this -

    - open Control Panel.
    - double-click the Default Programs icon.
    - click on Associate a file type or protocol with a program link.
    - scroll down the list to .gif and click on it.
    - click the Change Program button.
    - select the application you want to handle this file type and apply the change.

My animated gif files works very well in Internet Explorer. I just need to double-click on these files.

In windows explorer, maybe they would work if you made a third pane. Just
Edit and try with the third pane. However, it puts it into the third pane but for the animation gifs, it goes to IE.

So are there any non-internet programs available for Vista that can play animated gif images? I can open the file in any picture-viewing program, but it only shows the first frame. I believe Windows Picture and Fax Viewer plays the animation, but I think that only works on XP.

Thats correct. It only works in Windows XP. In order to view any gif image in Windows Vista, you need to download any third party applications like Windows Animated Gif Player.
