Outlook deleted folder frozen

like a dufus, i never emptied my outlook (office 2000) deleted folder. i probably exceeded the file capacity. now the folder seems frozen. i compacted the personal folder, created a new pst and moved all the emails to that new folder, but the deleted folder still won't empty. it says "the file......outlook.pst could not be accessed." can anyone help?

Do a search for folders.dbx This is the indexing file in OE. A new one is built every time you open OE. Find the file and delete it. Make sure OE is closed. After you delete the file, reopen OE (a new folders.dbx will be built) and try to empty the deleted folder.

thank you! i saw that advice earlier and did a search on My Computer for folders.dbx and it turned up nothing. i use office 2000 outlook (not express). is that why?

If you are not able to open up .pst file follow the steps.

1. Run Scandisk.exe or another disk utility on the hard disk to ensure hard disk integrity.
2. To make sure that the behavior is not specific to the computer or to the folder's location on the hard disk, move the .pst file to another location on the hard disk.
3. Create a new Outlook profile.
4. Add the relocated .pst file to the new profile.
5. Attempt to start Outlook.
