Re: How to remove and to reinstall Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) ?

If you have to reinstall IIS on a computer that running Exchange Server 2007, you must also reinstall Exchange 2007. This is to restore links to IIS that provide Outlook Web Access functionality together with other Exchange-related Web services such as the Availability service.

To remove and to reinstall IIS and Exchange Server, follow these steps.

To remove IIS, follow these steps:
    • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
    • Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
    • Click Application Server, and then click Details.
    • Click Internet Information Services (IIS), and then click Details.
    • Click to clear the check boxes for all subcomponents except Common Files, click OK two times, and then click Next.

To reinstall IIS, and then reapply the appropriate service packs

Remove and then reinstall the Exchange 2007 Client Access Server role

If Exchange 2007 is configured to have only the Client Access Server role, or if Exchange 2007 is configured to have the Client Access Server role together with the Mailbox role, you must remove and then reinstall the Client Access Server role. To do this, follow these steps -

Remove the Client Access Server role
To do this, follow these steps:

    • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
    • Click Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, and then click Remove.
    • Follow the instructions in the Exchange Server 2007 Setup Wizard. On the Server Role Selection page, click to clear the Client Access Role check box, and then click Next.

Note - Do not click to clear the Management Tools check box on this page.
    • Follow the remaining steps in the Exchange Server 2007 Setup Wizard to remove the Client Access Server role.

To remove the Client Access Server role at a command prompt, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

Use the cd command to change to the following directory:
    drive:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\bin

Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    exsetup.exe /mode:uninstall /roles:ca

Reinstall the Client Access Server role
To do this, follow these steps:

    • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
    • Click Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, and then click Change.
    • Follow the instructions in the Exchange Server 2007 Setup Wizard. On the Server Role Selection page, click to select the Client Access Role check box, and then click Next.
    • Follow the remaining steps in the Exchange Server 2007 Setup Wizard to reinstall the Client Access Server role. This action re-creates the links to the virtual server directories in IIS for the Client Access Server role.

Note - This action does not re-create the links to the virtual directories in IIS for other Exchange roles.

To reinstall the Client Access Server role at a command prompt, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.

Use the cd command to change to the following directory:
    drive:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\bin

Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    exsetup.exe /mode:install /roles:ca
