angry Can't expand any folders for more than a minute in Vista

    Hello Everybody,

I had installed Windows Vista on my pc. I had bought a file explorer and was trying to expand a drive letter. But the problem that i had on my pc was, i used to get the spinning magnifying glass for about 2 or 3 minutes before it actually started working. If try to double click on the right hand side that means directly on the folder name it opens up immediately. But i have to keep on doing this for each and every folder on my system. Can any one tell why i'm having such problem on my pc? What can i do in order to get back the explorer back to work on my pc? Does any body know about this issue? Kindly help me out to resolve the above issue.

    Thanks.

Here are two items that might shed some light on how to fix the problem:

    1. Once a large folder has been expanded (slowly) in Windows Explorer for the first time, it will open instantly any time I come back to it as long as I don't turn off the computer. But once I restart the computer, I have to wait a long time all over again for any of the large folders to expand.

    2. I just discovered by accident that if I use the "search" function before expanding any of the folders in Windows Explorer, all of the folders will expand instantly no matter what they contain or how big they are.

This seems to be telling me that once the operating system has "touched" each folder and file one time, it remembers them better then next time (until I reboot). I wonder if all of the folder/file information is getting dumped into RAM the first time it's expanded or searched? It seems like maybe this is an NTFS related cache issue. I have 2Gb of RAM, so I've experimented with turning off the page file (virtual memory), but it doesn't seem to make any difference whether it's off or on. There must be some other file caching system in NTFS that I'm not familiar with.

Please try deleting your lucene folder. With Flock shut down, go to this location:C:\Users\[your login profile name]\AppData\Roaming\Flock\Browser\Profile

Find the folder named with a random number (something like 34edg352.default), and look inside it for the folder called lucene, and delete it. Then try running Flock again.

Try this option, it may work. From the services applet in administrative tools disable the indexing service.

Hope so it may resolve your issue.

Hey you can go for CClenaer's registry cleaner. It will automatically take backup of your registry before cleaning. And this will even improve the speed of the internet.
