Reinstall windows live messenger and try to sign in again. Check the date and time of your computer. Double click the clock verify that the time and date are set. If you use a firewall, it’s possible that Messenger doesn’t have the correct rights to access the Internet.

To fix this error, check if Windows Live Messenger is allowed internet access by your firewall. Use the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. After installing you may have to adjust your firewall settings to allow Messenger to connect to the internet again.
