    Suiciadal Computer

So fine. Our computer gave us the Blue Screen of Death and a note saying "Bite Me" in binary.

We got it the therapy it so dearly needed, but unfortunately, it came back with amnesia. (As a side note: whacking it upside the head and yelling "You bloody tin contraption!" does not cure amnesia.)

So it came time to reload MS Office for Home and Student.

The problem? I have the key and nothing else. I can't get any derned website to let me have it.

    I'm bitter. Oh so bitter.

If anyone there can help me, I would be entirely grateful and this computer would be much less smug. The buzzard.

What are you asking, is it like you are having a BSOD onto your computer everytime? What operating system is installed? Can you be more specific as to where does the problem rise from? Refer to suggestions given in similar type of threads: Recurring BSOD on Multiple computers
Vista BSOD, am unable to shutdown without BSOD, logoff OK
    Vista Reboot cycle, BSOD
    BSOD STOP Error 0x0000007E

No problem booting; no problem with the operating system which is XP. I'm simply adding in the software that was lost. My problem is adding in MS Office Home and Student. I do not have a disc. I DO have the 25 character key. I was under the impression that if I just went to the site, I could simply give them the key and re-download it to my computer.

I can't find this idealized scenario. What I can find is a 30-Trial offer. And I can find it for sale.

I'm not a computer literate person, per se, but I'm the best of the two of this. If anyone asked my husband what the operating system of our computer was he would look shocked and ask me, "Why didn't you tell me the computer needed surgery?"

I hope this makes it more clear.

    Thank you!

No one can bet you for the term used or an example given for a non-techy person like that one described.

And for your problem, you can download the trial version and install it and after installation you can put the serial keys that is needed to activate it to the full version by getting into some option there, which can be called as, either purchase license key or enter the license or serial key that you carry. But one thing bugs me that if you have the serial key with you then how come you are not having the Office CD or either the Office Setup with you. Are you using a genuine copy that has been bought by you?

Yes I DO have the original. This hasn't been a very pleasant year. I live in Iceland, and the power, heat, and aesthetics are all done by Volcano.

One night about 9 months ago I woke up to a "funny noise", opened a door, couldn't help but notice a pipe had burst. A FLOOD of boiling water (serious, there is no temperature gauge on the hot here, people) ran over my feet, made me scream like a likkle girl...um, sailor on crack, and WIPED OUT ALL MY CDs and most of my really really cute stuff. (Only not the cat. He seemed to have Volcanic Sensitivity and was waiting for me in the ambulance outside.)

Everything up HIGH and wasn't boiled into a melty goo bucket of all that stuff in the sofa; remained. This includes my little last minute note to myself which is my notation of Office and the almighty 25 letter key.

Oooookay. Thank you, and I am off to give it a go.

ps. Iceland is a LOVELY country. It tends to be a bit cold; however, which is why you see people wearing sweaters made out of half a sheep holding up the giant fish they caught and buried in the sand about 50 years ago. Mmmmm!
