    Virtual memory problem

    Hi Everyone,
We have currently developed a RTSP streaming server for Windows Media Player. When we stream ASF files from the server we notice that the Virtual Memory keeps increasing upto the point that Windows throws the error "Virtual Memory Low". WMP then stops receiving data.
But if stream the same ASF file from Windows Media Server the virtual memory remains nearlt constant.
Why is there an increase in virtual memory when we stream from our server? How do we keep the virtual memory constant in the client PCs?

    Thanks in advance
    Venu

To resolve this you need to increase the virtual memory of your computer .

    Re: Virtual memory problem

The virtual memory is currently 1.5 times that of the RAM. We have also set it to "Sytem Managed".
But the virtual memory keeps increasing even if we set it to a very high value. Increasing the virtual memory is not solving the problem

Thank you for your quick reply.
I have gone through the links and done the necessary to ensure Windows Xp has ample Virtual Memory. But it has not solved the problem.

Do we have to mention anything special during session establishment in RTSP to prevent this from happening?

Try changing the page file to system manage size & not customized, also try to keep the boot drive's free space to around 1GB or more .

    Re: Virtual memory problem

I'd like to figure this out as well, I'm running a pile of Maya render boxes that constantly throw this error. There's 8 gigs of RAM, and virtual memory is set to 70 gigs! I just set it to that much to see if we could get Windows to clam up over this error, still goes though. Actual page file usage is under 250 megs. Setting it system managed doesn't change anything. Running XPX64.
