I think I've seen this when the name of the exe is in the registry at:

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths

because that App Paths location is the exe that runs, not yours. If I had to guess, one scenario is that the program might be called install.exe or setup.exe, and App Paths has an old 16-bit setup program there.

It works that way because that's what the App Paths registry entries are for. For example you can run notepad.exe without typing the full path because there's an App Paths entry. I've seen this before, so I just suspect that there is a common setup program somewhere that adds itself to the App Paths entries. You could ask that client if this is in fact the issue and get them to remove the setup.exe entry from their App Paths entries. Since there are probably thousands of programs out there all called setup.exe it would be a good idea to make yours more unique if that's an option.

    Thanks Eric,
May well be correct but it also gives the same error on a fresh load so not really sure?

Well just check if other installation files are running properly on that XP machine. It can be a CDROM problem, or you're infected with something thats screwing up exe files.

You could also try copying the contents of the CD to the hard drive and then running the install from there, that will narrow the problem down anyway.

Did your computer had a trial version of Office 2003 preinstalled on the hard drive? If yes, then you should have uninstalled the trial version before installing your full version of Office 2003 Professional. At this point, I suggest that you uninstall the full version, uninstall the trial version, and then reinstall the full version.

    Thanks Macarenas,
Installation files all seem fine, not a rom problem all checks out fine, exe files also appear to be fine, having difficulty copying to hard drive as it will not let me explore the cd, as soon as I open my computer the rom start working as if it is trying to load so not able to copy to hard drive, thought it may well be a crook disk that is why I have tried other machines some fine some not, got me confused now!

    Thanks JonathanD,
No it was a fresh load, no trial version at all, in fact on fresh install I tried prior to updates thinking that may well be the problem, still did not load, then do all updates, still no load, it has to be somewhere in the registry is my guess, or in the scripts, just going around in circles at the moment though!

    4. When you are prompted to uninstall the program, click Yes.
    5. When the removal process is complete, click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
    6. In the Named box, type "DungeonSiege.exe", "fs2002.exe", "train.exe", or "zoo.exe". Include the quotation marks.

Thanks to you all! I have been persisting with this thing! To save someone with the same problem and I know it will happen, some roms read the new Office Pro cd others do not regardless of age and the rom works fine for all other cd's something to do with the new cd's, to save someone the same frustration I have had place the cd in the rom do not load, go explore and if you see the Microsoft cd and flag it will load fine, if not it refuses too load! You need to find a rom that can read the thing, then it will load!
    Good Luck!
