Sound problem in Skype

Hey everyone,

Recently i have installed Skype software on my system. I'm running Ubuntu as my operating system. Whenever i try to use Skype software i don't get any sound from it. I had even try it on my headphone but the result was the same. Does any one know why i'm unable to get any sound? Any help on it would be appreciated.

Have a look at your Windows Audio settings:
Start--> Settings--> Control Panel--> Sounds and Audio Devices--> Audio

You have to read this very carefully. It is allowing you to set two very different parameters.

1. Selects Default Windows Device. You should leave this set where you first found it. This will more likely be a sound card rather than a USB device. You can check your default settings by exiting the control panel, then checking it again. If the USB device is set as the default device, then you will have problems with what sounds are appearing where.

2. You can also select a device to adjust the Audio levels on. If you select a USB device but leave it as the default device, and click on apply and OK, the USB device will be the default Windows device.

So bare in mind that this Audio Properties menu is allowing you to select a windows default device, and allowing you to adjust audio levels on many devices.

If you get a little lost with this, unplug your PhoneConnector, play an audio CD, and adjust your windows default device, and audio settings to suit the one source first.

I think the must have something todo with multiple applications using the sound infrastructure at the same time. Maybe there's a .soundrc file that you need to configure it correctly.

Volume, options, properties and check for the microphone being muted. I've seen various applications reset it to default. Some also see an error with regards to the wave playback causing grief with Skype, just mute it while using the applications.
