Try running SCANPST.EXE , which sits in: C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033\ - It fixed my problem.
You can get help from following link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/252304

    Try the following steps:
    • Restart in safe mode
    • Run scanpst.exe on the Outlook.pst file and fix errors
    • Rename the file. (If you do not rename it the file will still be locked when you restart and Outlook will still not open.)
    • Restart in normal mode
    • Rename the file to Outlook.pst
    • Open outlook.

Could it be that there is an outlook instance still running when starting outlook. These type of things happen when applications that use part of outlook (as part of a system integration) don't clear things up properly and therefore outlooks stays alive, and you can not start a new outlook instance.
Check the process tab in Task Manager and end the outlook process if its running.

    outlook.exe /resetnavpane
    OMG! Thank you!
I have tried so many things and this worked!
A question: Is it possible that this error was caused by an online chat with VerizonWireless? because that is what I was doing when it occurred.

No, actually this problem occurs if the user names contain Unicode characters. When you run Outlook 2007 for the first time, Outlook does not translate user names that are stored as part of the user profile path in the registry from Unicode to ANSI correctly. There are also a different KB article written to solve this issue - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/252304

Well, the fix you talk about did NOT work for me, and I have been using my Outlook 2007 for 9 months before the problem happened as I stated.

The problem of the same can be resolved by system restore. Recently I faced a similar issue where my outlook express was not responding. I took the back of my inbox folders and then run a system restore option. After running the same the outlook work well and my mails were also not lost. If you had added any addons to the application then just remove it.
