How do I speed-up the launching of start-menu ?
In order to reduce the lag time of displaying start-up menu, you can
-Open the Display applet within the Control Panel.
-From the Display Properties dialog box.
-Click the Appearance tab and then click the Effects button.
-Remove the check beside the option to Show shadows under menus.
-When this option is enabled, Windows XP will display a slight shadow under Start Menu options giving it a three-dimensional look.
-So disabling this option can improve performance.
Follow the steps:
Go to Start
Click Run.
Type regedt32 (or regedit), and then click OK.
Click Continue
On the Windows menu, click ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER’.
Navigate through 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop'.
Click on Desktop
In the right pane, Right-click the ‘MenuShowDelay’.
Click Modify.
In the Edit String, change the value data to 1 (default value should be 400). Click OK.
Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
This should remove the extra-time to display the start-menu.
You can make a small change to your registry. (of course, you are adviced to perform a backup first).
Open your registry (type regedit at the Run command), navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop. Right-click the MenuShowDelay option and click Modify. The default value is 400. You can reduce it to as low as 0.
This registry option controls how quickly your Start Menu displays up.
