question making video clips work within powerpoint

    hello
ive already read all the threads about how to put/embed/insert video clips into powerpoint but nothing i do seem to work.

i mean i have .avi clips saved on my drive, in the same folder as the presentation, but still the powerpoint wouldn't play them in the slideshow.all i get is a blank square instead of my clip

could it be because of the big size of the clip or something?

    please help

Insert Video Objects (Video with Play Controller)

PowerPoint also allows you to insert video objects within a slide - the advantage in inserting such video objects is that you'll get a video controller along with the video itself while PowerPoint is in slide show mode. Thus you can stop, pause and play the video right within PowerPoint.
Navigate to the slide where you want your video inserted in a new or existing presentation.

    Choose Insert | Object.

    1. In the Insert Object dialog box, make sure that the 'Create new' radio button is selected and choose the Media Clip option (you could also choose the Video Clip option).
    2. PowerPoint's menus will metamorphose to Media Player's menu options - choose Insert Clip provides several options including Video for Windows (for AVI videos) and DirectShow (for MPG, WMV and ASF movies) - the other options are to insert sound objects.
    3. Choose Edit | Options and place a check next to the Auto Rewind option. You can also choose whether you want a control bar should be visible while the video plays. By default, this option is selected. Click OK.
    4. Click anywhere outside the video object - you can reposition and resize your video.
    5. Normally, video objects play when clicked - if you want the video to play immediately with the slide:
    6. Select the video and choose Slide Show | Custom Animation. This will activate the Custom Animation taskpane.
    7. With the video object still selected, choose Add Effect | Object Actions | Play.
    8. Change the default Start value from On Click to After Previous.

To add Video Clips in Powerpoint:

To add in a picture select Insert > Movies and Sounds > Movie From File

Video is not embedded into the presentation - only linked. This means that if you email the presentation then the video will not work. The solution to this is to email both the video and the presentation at the same time.

If you are including video clips into a presentation make sure that they are short and snappy. We find that up to 45 seconds works best. We find that audiences typically get very twitchy after watching 60 seconds of video. If you have a longer clip the we suggest that you cut it down to shorter clips.

There are a lot of software packages that will enable you to cut down a video clip in length. Perhaps the most popular is Windows Movie Maker. This is included in the latest version of Windows XP and can be downloaded from the Microsoft Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...r/default.mspx

    Video Clips powerpoint

You can enhance a slide by adding a video clip or sound. Inserting a video clip (also called movie clips or files) or adding sound to a slide can add interest to your presentation, but relying on multimedia effects to carry your presentation often backfires. Too much sound and motion during a presentation is ultimately confusing to your audience. Used judiciously, however, video and sound effects can quickly catch your viewers’ attention. see here for more details http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/po...593121033.aspx
