    sad Acrobat hangs up

    Hello Everyone,

I have installed Windows Xp on my system. I'm having problem while using my Acrobat windows software. It was working fine until some one from my family member downloaded something from the internet. I don't know what was downloaded from the internet but after that it started giving me the problem. It hangs up in between and to get rid of this problem i have to press Alt+Ctrl+Del buttons every time. I even tried to uninstall the software and then tried to reinstall, but it didn't work for me. Can any one help me out to resolve this issue? I would be grateful to you if any one sort out my problem.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Acrobat hangs up

Do one or more of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Delete the temporary files that Acrobat or Reader creates, and then install the update or upgrade.

Acrobat 6.0 and Adobe Reader 6.0 may not delete the temporary files that they create during normal processes, such as filling in forms. Because Acrobat and Reader check temporary files at startup, an excess of temporary files can cause a long delay during startup or appear to be a freeze.

    To delete temporary files:

    1. Choose Start > Run, and type command in the Open text box. Click OK.

    2. Type the following commands and press Enter after each command:

    c:

    cd\

    del acr*.tmp /s

Note: Many lines of text will fill the Command.com window as this process runs. Wait for the process to complete (when the text has stopped for about 10 seconds), and then continue to the next step.

    3. Type exit to close the Command.com window.

    4. Install the 6.0.1 update, or upgrade to version 8.

Important: Before you upgrade to version 8, remove versions 6.x and 7.x of Acrobat or Reader from your system. For instructions, see the Related Documents section of this document.

Solution 2: Re-create the Updater folder.

Re-create the Updater folder to make sure it doesn't contain damaged or corrupt files.

    1. Choose Start > Run, type %appdata% in the Open text box, and then click OK.

    2. In the resulting window, navigate to \Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\[Acrobat version number]\.

    3. Delete the Updater folder.

    4. Restart Acrobat or Reader. A new Updater folder is creating during startup.

    Re: Acrobat hangs up

The problem may be related to having Acrobat 8.1.3 and Reader 9 installed on the same machine. Because of their similarities, they experience conflicts especially in the area of PDF creation and browser integration.

Although you can install Adobe Acrobat 9.x or Adobe Reader 9.x on a computer that contains an installation of previous Acrobat versions,as it is not recommended.

    Re: Acrobat hangs up

    Follow the below steps mentioned.

Solution 1: Close all open browsers on your computer and wait 5 to 7 minutes.

Solution 2: Open Acrobat manually and use the exit command to close the application.
    • 1. Open Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
    • 2. Select File--> Exit.

Solution 3: End the Acrobat.exe or Acrord32.exe process manually.

    For Acrobat:

    • 1. Select Start--> Run and type taskmgr in the Open text box.
    • 2. Select the Processes tab.
    • 3. Select Acrobat.exe and click End Process.

    For Adobe Reader:

    1. Select Start--> Run and type taskmgr in the Open text box.

    2. Select the Processes tab.

    3. Select Acrord32.exe and click End Process.

Acrobat and Adobe Reader continually check the web browser for open PDF documents. In certain circumstances Acrobat and Adobe Reader detect that an open document condition exists in the browser when in fact there are no PDF files open. The browser plug-in stores files in the browser cache, which may cause the browser to report an incorrect condition until the browser is closed. In addition, applications with hooks into Internet Explorer may cause Acrobat and Adobe Reader to detect an open browser even when the browser appears to be closed.

    Re: Acrobat hangs up

You can also try out the following steps.

Solution 1: Repair Acrobat or Reader.

If you repair Acrobat, you need the Acrobat CD-ROM (or access to the installation files on a network) to complete this solution.

    To repair Acrobat or Reader:

    1. Choose Start--> Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open text box, and then click OK to open the Add Or Remove Programs dialog box.

    2. Click Change Or Remove Programs, and then click Adobe Acrobat [version number]or Adobe Reader [version number].

    3. Click Change/Remove or Change.

    4. In the Setup dialog box, click Next, select Repair, and then click Next again.

    5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the repair.

Solution 2: Log into a new user account.

Create a new user account that has administrative privileges, and then log into that account before you start Acrobat or Reader.

Hope so it may help you out to resolve your problem.
