Firefox 3.0.6 is available for download
Mozilla has made available for download the first release of its open source browser in 2009. Firefox 3.0.6 is now up for grabs, and with the exception of Firefox 3.1, which is still in beta stage, the only option for users who want to continue to use Mozilla's open source browser. As is the case with the updates delivered for Firefox, version 3.0.6 is nothing more than a security and stability refresh.
Mozilla has patched a total of six security vulnerabilities, one of which Critical, two rated with a risk impact of High, one Moderate and two Low. At the same time, Mozilla has resolved several stability issues with the browser. Users of Firefox 3.0.6 will no longer come across problems associated with parts of the screen displaying improperly the content after the browser was kept opened for extended periods of time.
Until the end of 2008, Mozilla provided security and stability updates for Firefox 2.0 and Firefox 3.0 in parallel. As of the second half of December 2008, this is no longer the case, as version 3.0 is not exclusively the focus of all support efforts, while its precursor has been killed off. While users can continue running Firefox 2.0.0.20, the last update of v2.0, they will expose themselves to unnecessary risks, considering that Mozilla no longer patches vulnerabilities for Firefox releases earlier than 3.0.
