Cant make outlook work with vista

I have seen similar things to this posted numerous times but none of the described fixes have worked for me. I am running Vista home Premium SP1 on my personal laptop. I use this computer for work but only when I work from home. I am not on an exchange server. I recently replaced my old laptop and this is my first experience with vista. I am still just running the MS office trial that came loaded on the machine and am having the following problems with outlook 2007.

I can not compose/reply/forward email from outlook. (I receive them as I should and notify works when they arrive) Those options are grayed out.
I can not access options under the tools menu to update mime files etc as it is grayed out.
I can not add appointments to the calender from outlook (but it will sync them from my blackberry just fine) as those options are grayed out.
I can not add contacts directly from outlook. Yeah it's grayed out but they upload from my berry just fine.

I have firefox browser on my computer though I am not sure if this is relevant unless I am using windows mail, and as I said there is no exchange server so the patch is not relevant to my case. I need the calendar and contact lists so basic settings is not an option for me. I have only read of mail issues previously but since they were identical to the problems I am having I doubt the issue is the "trial" in trial version. Any advice would appreciated.

Yes, send this link to the sysadmin of the mail server:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911829

It's not something you can fix from your end. You can use an alternate web
    browser as a workaround.

Re: Cant make outlook work with vista

Thank you for all of you replies. I guess that I am missing something when I read about the server patch. The only email routed through my outlook is my blackberry email which has to be forwarded through my personal gmail acct as my crackberry email is BIS not BES and since my computer never leaves my house, I guess I would forward the link to gmail?????? Ah nah that's not the problem, it's not a microsoft exchange problem I thought I made that clear. I dont use IE I also thought that was stated clearly.

Also thought I made it clear that I had read every post for the last year about problems with outlook and could not find an answer. I was not getting error messages, simply could not send or reply or use certain functions.

I am pointing this out, not to be rude BUT because I noticed while reading that many people were trying the patch on their home laptops and crashing them because they are personal users or home business with only one PC and there is no sys admin to send a server patch to. The next thing that I noticed was that the problem seemed to be cropping up on alot of new laptops specifically with trial versions in use. Here is the problem and I fixed it.

Every new laptop etc comes with it's own special security enhancements, firewalls, antivirus, PSD lockouts etc. I can't go into specifics of what needs to be disabled because it will vary depending on your software but in my case, security settings were preventing proper activation of the trial. That was it, it was that simple. Also, once you do the activation do a full reboot just to be sure that some function of outlook doesn't continue running in the background because the activation will not take effect unless the trial product is completed shutdown and restarted. (EX: if you have an outlook gadget installed outlook is still technically running if you close the main program window, a spread sheet up somewhere etc.)

I hope this helps some of the users that have not found answers to the specific cant send/reply issues.
