Apparently I'm not connected to the internet...

This is something that is making me want to go back to XP. I'm currently running Vista x64.

Now to the problem: Whenever I try to play a multiplayer game, I cannot connect (In steam its connection attempt failed or something along those lines when wanting to join a server) - Also, for example today, EA needs to verify a new game it has to go online - it gives me a message saying something about connecting to the net and trying again. I couldn't and still haven't been able to play L4D online because of this problem with steam that I cannot connect to a server.

I have fiddled around with windows firewall settings, tried turning it on/off, adding a programme to the list and choosing the .exe etc etc... Still haven't been able to fix it. Please help ? I can't play Online at the moment. Also: I have a wireless connection with a Netgear DG834PN, havent been into the settings by putting 192.168.0.1 in the address bar yet.

Sorry about the semi wall o' text.
